These transactions provide quick access to various applications within the SAP environment.

In simple terms, they are programs created to perform specific tasks in the SAP system; tasks that are executed through a sequence of screens and where we must perform a series of actions to translate a task or a business process into the system.

In addition to facilitating access to applications, transactions can also be used to access confidential information or critical business processes within the organization.
Therefore, security-related incidents must be filtered from a large amount of data and placed in the appropriate context.

To be able to evaluate and analyze each of the events, intelligent management is required.

Understanding SAP transactions and applications

SAP transactions are programs or function modules that users or automated processes call within an SAP system. It is the functional component of an SAP system, used to change data in its database.

The transaction is controlled by the SAP system, not directly by the database.
To prevent simultaneous modification of data objects and, therefore, inconsistencies due to parallel transactions, each transaction locks the data records that will be modified for exclusive use.

Important:

SAP transactions describe a complete series of SQL statements that are interpreted as a global closed unit: the LUW, or logical unit of work.

If a transaction stops before the defined completion, the database rolls back; since the transaction that ended with errors may not have written the data correctly, the SAP system restores the data to its previous state.

This concept of transactions aims to avoid logical errors and ensure consistent database states.

Transaction code or T-code

Transactions have short names called transaction codes (T-codes), which generally consist of uppercase letters and numbers.

The number of original transactions depends on the SAP modules used, but they are usually thousands and vary in each module.

Transactions in SAP

There are numerous transactions in SAP systems that are used to quickly activate SAP applications in a single step. For example, transactions for inventory, for the purchasing module, etc.

Continuous monitoring of transactions and applications to protect SAP ERP and S/4HANA environments is essential.

The most important transactions in SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA

What are the most popular and important transactions in SAP ERP or SAP S/4HANA?
